Songkick put together a wonderful cause to get Tycho to play in London, UK on Dec. 14th. The site is Detour Dates which if 500 people buy tickets they'll get Tycho over to London to play a show at XOYO and have Scott do his first proper gig in the EU with Zac Brown the bassist.
If the show happens we'll also have an exclusive poster for some of the first people thru the door made by Scott Hansen.
We're wrapping up the Little Dragon / Tycho tour tomorrow night in Tampa (Tuesday, Oct. 25th). It's been an incredible tour, we started out up in Toronto and made our way down through the south. It was our first time playing a lot of these cities and we were amazed by the warm reception we got from everyone. We'll definitely be back very soon with the full show (visuals etc.)
We're driving from Orlando to Tampa right now, can't wait to get back out there for the first time with the live band. We have the day off so going to try and get some sun and swimming in today.
You can purchase tickets for the Tampa show here or you can enter to win some here.
See you out there!

We've got about a month to go until the full release of the new Tycho full length, Dive (out digital Oct. 25 / physical Nov. 15), but iTunes has the pre-order up now at a discount. I'm putting together a preview track with snippets from all the songs on the album, should be posting that in the coming weeks.
Tycho will be playing live with the full band in Los Angeles next Tuesday to kick off a three date west coast stint leading up to the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle. We're giving away two sets of tickets (two tickets in each set) to the LA show at the Echoplex. Head on over to the blog for a chance to win
Today Pitchfork shared the first single from the upcoming Tycho album "Dive". The single entitled "Hours" is available as a free download. Along with this special announcement we are offering the pre-order lithographs featuring the album artwork, head over to the shop and grab one of the first editions.
∴ Album Complete - Free Single - Several Tour Dates Added
I'm very pleased to announce that the next full length Tycho album is complete with a release date set for October, 2011. Also, an edited version of the title track from the album will be released as a free single in early August. Full details along with album artwork and exact release dates are coming soon.
We've also added some new dates for the live band, details are at the events page on the blog.
I'll be playing a laptop / visuals set at Cameo Gallery in Brooklyn this Saturday, 4/16 at Midnight. Space is very limited so grab a ticket early. I'll also have some copies of the above limited edition print on hand.
Above is some (poorly shot on a phone, sorry) test footage from the new visuals set for the Tycho live show (next one is this Thursday, 4/7 in SF). The song is from the forthcoming album. It’s not all completely tightened up yet but you get the idea. I recently stripped down the entire live set — audio and video — and started from scratch. With the new album pretty much wrapped up I decided to rework the visuals to go with all the new material and to have everything work better with the new live band. What you’re seeing is VDMX effecting / compositing video in real-time on a Macbook Pro. Everything is being triggered / synced by another machine via MIDI over IP running Reaper which is handling all the audio duties.
I’ve been using VDMX for years now but just recently switched to Reaper as my DAW for recording and decided to use it for the live shows as well (Was never happy with Ableton. It’s a great app but it just didn’t fit my specific needs / workflow). It’s been a very freeing experience to say the least. Being able to use the same software in the studio and on stage has helped immeasurably and opened up some possibilities that didn’t exist before. Here’s hoping it all works as smoothly on Thursday (the first Tycho show to feature the new album and visuals) as it has been during rehearsals.
I also wanted to take this time to give a bit of a progress report on the new Tycho album. It feels like forever since I started, but everything has finally come together. Things took a lot of twists and turns; a lot has changed and some songs have been shelved while new ones have taken their place. But I think the album is now — finally — what I envisioned it to be when I started this process some two years ago. All that is left to do now is tie up some loose ends and complete the mixing / mastering phase and things should be ready to go. With label schedules and all that I’d imagine a release date sometime after this summer.
Thanks to everyone for your patience and support over this past couple years. You have afforded me the ability to focus on my work in a way I was never able to before, and for that I am extremely grateful.
I'll be playing a Tycho show at The Independent here in San Francisco on April 7th for the SOMA FM 11th Anniversary Party. This will be with the entire live band and we'll be running through a lot of new material from the upcoming album (which, incidentally, is very near completion; hoping to have it wrapped up by the time of this show).
We've been working a lot on evolving the live set and the visuals so I'm excited that we'll be bringing all the new elements together for the first time at The Independent, which just happens to be my favorite venue in the city. I hope to see a lot of you out there.
This is the limited edition Coastal Brake tee shirt featuring artwork from the Tycho Coastal Brake release. This is the first time I've worked with four color process in screen printing, was an interesting change of pace getting the colors matched. More pics and info over here.
I’ll be doing visuals (as ISO50) for Casino Versus Japan when he plays with Deerhunter and Real Estate this Friday and Saturday here in San Francisco. We’ve done this once before, at LPR in NYC. Should be a great night, see you out there.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been going through the process of putting together a live band for the Tycho show coming up on July 9th here in San Francisco. Those of you who’ve been to my past shows will know that I usually play solo and the focus is on the visuals and some light synth work. I’ve always wanted to try and represent the album version of the music as faithfully as possible in the live environment. But this recent break from playing live (been working on the new album) has given me a chance to re-evaluate what I want the performances to be about and it’s also afforded me some time to put into developing the whole thing a little more.
This upcoming set at Mezzanine will be my first show back in a while — and one of only a few I’ll be playing this summer as I wrap up the album — so I wanted it to be something special. I’ve been working with a some other musicians on the new material so it sort of made sense to try and incorporate them into the live stuff. I spent the past couple weeks deconstructing a lot of the songs and working them into live versions that sort of bridge the gap between electronic and traditional instrumentation and have been rehearsing with the band at Ira Skinner’s studio in Sacramento.
Zac Brown (frequent collaborator and guitarist for Dusty Brown) will be handling bass duties while Matt McCord will be on drums. I’ll be on some guitars and synth and Dusty and Jessica Brown will be joining us for a couple songs as well. We’ve got a few more practices but things are sounding really good and I’m really excited to bring it all to life on the 9th. Hope to see you there.

Past is Prologue has been reissued by Ghostly International and is now available on iTunes (and, as always, at the ISO50 Shop). the reissue includes an exclusive remix by Mux Mool of From Home.
I often get asked about the lineage of this album, which has taken on many forms, so I thought I’d lay it out here. The original release was entitled Sunrise Projector and was self-released. Later, Merck records picked it up and released it as Past is Prologue. The Merck version featured new artwork, two new original songs, and two new remixes — but was missing one of the tracks from the Sunrise Projector release. Merck also released a 12″ vinyl sampler featuring 5 tracks from the album. Now, ghostly has released this digital reissue which features the new Mux Mool remix. Hope that clears it up!
